About North Florida School Days
North Florida School Days, a parent/student monthly, was
created 10 years ago to help the parents of Alachua County.
Each month, the purpose of the magazine is to bring useful
information to parents who have students in preschool,
elementary and middle school.
Katie Folken and Keri Taylor began publishing in October of
1994 with the cooperation of community and business leaders
along with teachers and administrators from Alachua County
schools.
The magazine grew from a starting 24 page count to a present
day page count of 64 and up to 80 pages during the summer camp
editions. Growth has also come in the form of distribution.
Originally the magazine was distributed to a limited number of
schools in the area and as the magazine's popularity grew so
did distribution. The magazine now goes out to preschools
throughout the area, a variety of medical practices, Alachua
Co. Library district, an array of student associated
businesses and restaurant locations. 25,000 are distributed
each month.
The magazine started with around 20 dedicated advertisers
(many whom still advertise with North Florida School Days
today.) Since that time, all types of businesses have chosen
to work with us. We have 75 regular advertisers and over 150
advertisers depending on the month. These businesses have come
to depend on North Florida School Days to communicate with the
community regarding their particular service or product.
